Course Description:

 In this course we study the relational dimension of therapy. One aspect is attachment and attachment styles, how our bonding or lack thereof affects the person’s relationship to himself, his needs and others. The therapist is called to be a corrective attachment figure, offering the client a safe connection. We then explore different relational models and approaches to couple therapy, as many times the issues a client will bring to therapy are relational. 

Course Goal:

The aim of the course is to give the students a foundation to work with relationship issues and couple therapy

Learning Objectives: 

After completing this course the students will be able to: 

1.     Create a protocol on working with a couple based on their central issues 

2.     Assess a client’s attachment style 

3.     Relate developmental stages of childhood to stages of adult relationship 

4.     List the ways that couples negatively interact with each other which jeopardize connection 

5.     Counsel a couple with infidelity issues 

6.     Outline the steps of helping a couple to separate consciously
